What to do when you get a pop up box asking you; "are you sure you want to leave this site"

Some of these can be harmless but many can run active x controls on your PC and could lead to your browser becoming hijacked or worse still a virus on your system.

The best way to deal with these is to do the following.

DON'T click on either the OK or Cancel or even touch the dialogue box. Even if it gives you the option to cancel a certain action don't believe a word of it. Most likely both buttons will lead to a browser hijack.

Now do the following

Regardless of whether you're using Windows XP,Vista or 7 mouse over your task bar and right click.

Now choose /left click "Task Manager"

Select the Processes Tab and click any instance of iexplore.exe or for other browsers find them on the list. Now click "End Process" do this until you cannot see any other instances of iexplore running.

If your browser offers you the option to restore the last viewed page you must click "No"

Shows the Task Manager view this is also accessible
by pressing a combination of ctrl+alt+delete.

By following these simple instructions most browser hijacks are easily negated. Others will not be so simple. Windows usually asks you before it will run any potentially harmful scripts but dialogue box pop ups are easily manipulated and usually end in trouble. Make sure you report the site to the search engine you were using.
